We are a different type of law firm offering a different type of solution.

We combine the expertise from a traditional law firm with the business know-how and commercialism of in-house lawyers to provide your business with a cost-effective and bespoke solution that meets your needs.

Services

External In-house lawyer

If you need an inhouse lawyer, we can provide you with these services either virtually or through a physical presence or a combination of both.

Your business may not have engaged an inhouse lawyer previously and instead engaged a traditional law firm as and when the need arose. This can be a very expensive and inefficient way of purchasing legal services. It gives little opportunity for the law firm (despite what they might say) to really understand your business and to give appropriate commercial advice.

We provide the typical advice that would be expected from an in-house lawyer. This will therefore be, in the main, around commercial contracts and around typical day to day regulatory matters such as data protection, company law and competition law. As with an inhouse lawyer, we will give basic advice in other legal areas. However, if a matter falls outside of our expertise, we will let you know. From our extensive knowledge of the legal market, we can then help your find the right external legal expert at the right price for the matter. We can then manage the matter on your behalf and provide you with an invaluable second opinion on the external advice you are receiving.

Assistance for your in-house legal team

You may already have an in-house legal team. If it needs an additional pair of hands or short to mid-term cover, we can help either remotely or with a physical presence.

Bespoke projects

You may have specific one-off legal projects where you need a trusted legal partner to assist or indeed take the lead on the project. Our lawyers have considerable experience in drafting and negotiating business critical commercial contracts. The can be of considerable value running into the £10s and £100s of millions of annual turnover. Much of the work our lawyers have been involved in is of an international nature

Who we are

SPB legal is owned and managed by Simon Bates who is an experienced solicitor having previously been a partner in a national solicitors’ practice as well as a director of an alternative business structure law firm. Simon also has experience of working with an in-house legal team of an internationally known brand. Simon has a particular specialism in advising corporates in high value commercial agreements frequently of an international nature.
